Honoré and Beaupain adapt these conventions with more care than may be apparent on a single viewing. Moreover, as a musical, Les Chansons d’amour draws on several conventions of the traditional Hollywood musical. Les Chansons d’amour is unusual because of the realism of its characters, setting and story the film has little dance and no big production numbers, but it is a musical.
